Under the Warm Sky and why it failed as a study

I suppose this post has been a good three months in the making. It's quite clear that two things happened with the fanfic: 1) no one quite got what it was about and 2) I failed to properly convey said ideas.

Honestly, I'm not as surprised as I maybe should be. The whole thing was sort of a culmination of my thoughts regarding the first season and served as a tribute to it. Without iconic characters or a strong hook, it's no wonder it's not popular or read all that often. But the failure extends much deeper once the symbolism and structure is revealed to those who had not constructed it.

Symbolism and pretentiousness ahoy )

In short, it's no wonder the story only has one review (as of this post) that claims it's an "interesting drabble, but rather pointless, really." I basically failed on an epic scale to convey the point of it. I suppose you have to fail quite a few times to get better though. For those of you who enjoyed it nonetheless, I thank you dearly. For those who found contention with it, I thank you as well for taking the time to stop and read it. It was quite a learning experience.

On Chrom's Father and the Crusade(s?) Against Plegia

While working on that stupid Gangrel fic, I got into waaaaaay too much speculation and, well, some of it culminates here.

Spoilers and speculation abound )

Maybe another day we'll get into religion and FE13 but for now I think this is enough to chew on.

The history of Plegia...

The more I play FE13, watch others play it, view supports and see others' detailed analysis of it, the more I get a rather depressing impression of Plegia as a nation. This extends much further back than simply Gangrel's rule or the crusade of Ylisse a decade or so prior to the game; everything points to Plegia having a history of oppression and famine.

As I begin to work on a piece revolving around Gangrel, the "Mad King" of Plegia, though, questions start to settle in: Why does Plegia have a portion of the Fire Emblem? Seeing as the Grimleal begin to mimic some real organizations in the general vibe they begin to exude (see Chp 8 and Male!Robin's A support with Gangrel), how close does Plegian society link to similar nations throughout history? How does the culture function, and how do the morals compare to the traditions of Ylisse?

A few vague answers seem to be become somewhat evident upon further examinations, though it remains speculation. Based on the fear of the Grimleal and the apparent dissatisfaction with Grima, the first immediate answer would be to say that Grima has never been a choice of popular opinion and that the Grimleal have always oppressed the people in various ways. However, history and the passage of time are quite strange, and seeing as the original survivors of the mess that occurred a thousand years ago eventually built their capital about/based on the skull of Grima himself...I think it's a safe bet to say that they originally took Grima to be a sign of shelter from the harsh conditions of the area. How that evolved over the course of history and how it became the mess Plegia is by FE13 is the real question, though I suspect that the crusade of Chrom's father had a large impact in the Grimleal's rise and oppression in recent times.

I suppose we'll have to wait for Aversa's Spotpass for further information...

Welcome

To both anyone who is reading this as well as myself. LocalTalent53 here, from FanFiction.net, to go on about fic details, ramblings and all things fic writers have a tendency to do.

We'll see how often something comes out of this, though with my completion of FE13, I have a lot to say....
